Army engineer invents lightweight ballistic combat shirt, wins award

“We set out with this science and technology effort to meet the needs of high-performance athletes, which is what Soldiers are,” said Dilalla, the team leader of the Infantry Combat Equipment Team at the Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center.

 

Natick's Robert DiLalla took a game-changing approach to develop the Ballistic Combat Shirt (pictured here under other protective gear). DiLalla focused on meeting the high-performance athletic needs of the Warfighter, resulting in a lighter weight, less bulky form of protection that doesn't hinder movement.
